Climate Justice Activists

Climate Justice Activists
Students for Global Democracy Uganda’s project on “Empowering Grass Root Women and Students as Climate Justice Activists” is empowering grass root women and young people, principally females to effectively participate in discussions and decision making processes related to energy transition and sustainable development as climate justice activists. The project will be benefiting 4 sub counties of Mityana and Mubende districts.i.e. Sekanyonyi, Namungo and Kalangalo and Kassanda respectively located in central region of Uganda and intended to reach over 8 communities and estimated to reach over 2000 people, including women and youth. Emphasis for 60% of the project interventions in rural areas is to bridge the civic rights knowledge gap between rural women and girls and their counterparts in the urban. Most women in these areas are employed in agriculture, particularly in subsistence farming, a sector that has been and will continue to be profoundly impacted by drought, erratic rainfall, and other effects of climate change. Women in these rural areas face more challenges in securing income and resources for their families during periods of drought and erratic rainfall than those in urban areas, and are increasingly becoming vulnerable because of effects of climate change. The project actions are addressing the urgent need to empower women and promote gender equality in climate change responses. By ensuring the meaningful participation of women and youth and integrating their perspectives, we are building a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future for all
